Participate in a one-hour, guided interoception exercise to get a hold of your nervous system activation. Stare Down meditation is an effortful practice of focusing your attention on the simple sensations of your nervous system. This non-spiritual activation allows you to experience the basic functioning of your emotional process. When you are “on animal” your instinct generates energy in the process of defending your physical state (“feeling”)—and your mind accompanies it (“feel-thought”) in a cyclical phenomenon of rumination/obsession in an attempt to protect you. A Stare Down will allow you break this cycle of overprotection (meant for the wild, not the living room) by refocusing your attention away from triggering thoughts that signal perceived, rather than actual threat.
